Drop-in Obedience
This ongoing class builds on the skills of Basic Obedience and introduces Canine Good Citizen skills. Not only can pet owners practice and/or build their basic skills, it’s ideal for both novice competitors who want to enhance their training skills and for seasoned competitors who want additional basic skills leading to competition work.
This class reinforces the basic exercises (heel, sit, down, etc.). The Trainer also covers exercises for off-lead heeling to be practiced at home, and provides training tips and pointers directed to the needs of the individual students. The Trainer will also introduce the techniques needed for Canine Good Citizenship, and testing will be available if desired.
The Class
Drop-in, Wednesday evenings every week, 7:00 PM – 7:45 PM, at the Osterville Community Center.
Drop-in Show Handling
This class focuses on the skills needed to compete in AKC-sanctioned dog shows. It is ideal for experienced Show Competitors who want further training and refinement. It is also for Show Prospects who want to or are just beginning to show their dogs competitively.
You’ll find a heavy emphasis on simulating show ring conditions, with dogs and handlers going through (and being critiqued on) the same individual and group exercises you’ll experience in the show ring. With the personalized format, the training tips and pointers are individualized for each handler. For young dogs and/or new handlers, the focus is on show-proofing and acclimating the dogs/handlers to the various aspects of the show ring. For more experienced dogs and handlers, the focus tends to be more on refinement and/or working on specific issues.
